2nd May Thai-Chinese learning language

On 2nd May, I taught Tom about Thai restaurant stuffs by using msn. It was about rice, noodles, pork, chicken, fish, beef and seafood. I gave him vocabularies for those foods and tried to review him often. He could answer me, but sometimes he didn’t. I taught him to ask for spiciness. “mai aou ped mak” means I don’t want that spicy. Tom was confused a bit about the sentence that he has to talk because Thai is not his first language. It’s good that Tom like Thai food, so we decided to go to Central world for Thai restaurant on 3rd May. However, he is a person that can learn Thai fast. I feel good to have Tom as my student. I will help him whenever he gets struck. But firstly, I will just let he do it himself first.

20. 24th May Thai-Chinese learning(shopping)

On 24th May, Tom and I went to central world. I let Tom tried to ask for some color he liked and the size. It was not that hard because he knew some of them before and also knew from what I taught him. We went to the shop called “Monkey shop” The shirt looks fabulous. However, I got a Mickey Mouse shirt from that shop. It sounds weird because Mickey mouse is totally not a monkey. After we finished walking around at central world, we went to Siam square. Tom finally got the necklace. He was asking for the silver one. I didn’t really help him and I was laughing a bit behind him. He was quite nervous to ask because that was his first time speaking Thai to Thai seller. He always stay behind me and i told him to go in front and look for it, so i went behind him and let he walked first. This time helped Tom a lot to be more confident. Even though he didn’t get some shirt, he got a necklace. It was like a guitar that has a clock on it. It looked cool. Nevertheless, I will help Tom buying clothes again and I hope he will find one that he likes.

19. 10th Chinese-Thai learning (shopping stuffs)

On 10th by using msn messenger, I taught Tom about shopping stuffs. It was about the colors, sizes, and some sentences he will use to talk to the seller. It was not that hard for Tom to do the color stuffs because he knew it from Thai class before. But he forgot some, so I reminded him. For the size, Thai people usually do S, M, L, so it was easy for him. But then for the sentences, he couldn’t really remember that, so I kept telling him and asking him. For example, "Pee kub, un nee tou rai kub" means that how much is this? I also taught him a bit about accessories because he wanted to buy a necklace. However, I will let Tom go shopping for real and let he tried to ask by himself. But if he can’t then I will help him by saying a bit because that might remind him.

18. (RE)Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.

This goal is to about infection diseases. They try to make sure that infection diseases don’t make many people die like it is doing.

Diseases are spreading from one to another. It especially happens in poor country because it’s tough to spread out the information of how to prevent the diseases. There are also not enough medicines, high quality of doctors, hospital to take care of sick people. Diseases make people can’t think or work well. It takes money, time, and care from their family. Diseases are killing people, so poor country should make sure that diseases don’t make people sick or get killed.

Now I know that this goal is very important because nowadays they are many people who got those scary diseases and it makes them get worse and die. I never thought about poor countries that it’s quite difficult to spread the information of the dangerous diseases. Another country should care more on the poor country to help them reduce the percentage of the problem. Everyone is living in the same world. If you can help others, just do it.

To make a difference, I would send the letters to the poor countries to let them know the information about the scary diseases which might make their people die more. I might visit to the poor country and teach them of what I understand or know.

For my place, Bangkok, I will tell my friend around to be aware of the disease. If they feel sick, then i will tell them to go to see the doctor immediately. It is better to be aware before you get the real disease. Bangkok has a lot of very good doctors, so that helped a lot. People should be clean all the same for saving themselves. I will tell people I know to wash their hand often, to eat healthy food, go check their body every 6month or 1 year.

17. (RE)Can handicapped people contribute to society?

Last class, I have learned about a handicap person named Wichan who was a teacher that graduated in Bachelor’s degree.
He wanted to be a teacher so he attended at one school and he finally came third out of about 200 applicants. He was teaching at the Damrongrachanusorn Kindergarten School which is in Si sa Ket’s Kantharalak district. His books were converted into Thai Braille letters to help him with his work.
Indeed, Handicapped people are facing to the cruel world because they are different from others. Most of people would think like this guy is not normal and they don’t want to cooperate with handicapped people. Normal people might feel that if they work with handicapped people then their work might get done slower. I sometimes see that people steal money from blind people because they can’t see anything. However, most handicapped people are very hard working because they know that they’re not same as others and it is tough for them to get a job. In fact, less normal people accepted them.
Handicapped people can do so many things. For example, Mr. Wichan; even he is blind, he can graduated from Bachelor’s degree and teach the kindergarten students. Handicapped people can do what normal people can do, but it might be harder for them. However as I said most of them are hardworking person, so they would have more succeeded than their usual life.
In my own situation, I found that not everyone can teach those handicapped people. They should have a specialist who will take care of them and understand them. Our school also doesn’t have the materials or stuffs to teach them, so it’s quite difficult for the school. It is easier for handicapped people to study at the special place for handicapped people.
Actually they should be included, but then I think lots of people will not accept them. Deeply in my mind, I think handicapped people are human which have almost everything like normal people, so they should be included for doing things. The school might want to find a Braille text book to make them able to read and understand.
I don’t think handicapped people are the same as ESL students because both kinds of people have some weaknesses which make them separated from normal people. The different of them is that ESL can be improved later, but handicapped people have something wrong with themselves which is from the nature and it’s can’t be changed. It might be changed, but then it won’t be normal.
One can make a difference by being kind and allow handicapped people to join or to do activities together. Don’t hate or be afraid of them because they are just a normal people which have almost everything the same as us. We should be pity of them; not to give them hatred and stay away from them.
I will help them making a school for those handicapped people. It doesn't need to be big, so that everyone will get to know each other and they will love each other as a brother or sister. It would build them a smile. Sometimes, they might feel that they're different and they might feel more inferior. So a better way would be a school for handicapped people. They would feel better if they're staying together as a group. I will find a good teacher that is specialize for those handicapped people to be more comfortable and easy to study.

16. Presentations and Planning for Teaching

Tom and I’ve been trying to teach and learn in Chinese and Thai about ordering some food in the Thai or Chinese restaurant. The result came out quite nice, but then Tom still has some problem which is the word order. Therefore I will often reminding him of the word order.
Next lesson we will teach each other on clothing, so we would be able to buy some clothes without shyness. Tom lives in Thailand, so he would want to learn it. Actually he has few clothes, so I think this is a good lesson for him to buy new clothes.
I as a teacher will teach Tom in Thai by using English language to communicate. I will teach him clothing vocabularies. For example: shirt, pants, socks, shoes, etc.
The first lesson will be at Siam. I will also use some pictures and games to make him remember it easily. I will care more on the vocabularies first, and then word orders and the pronunciations.
After Tom is fine with the vocabularies, I will pretend like I am a seller and he is a buyer.
He would have to ask me the price, the color he wants and etc. If he starts with me first, then he probably gets more confident. And if he really wants to buy new clothes, I would go with him and let he tries to buy them by speaking in Thai.

15. Reflection of Chinese-Thai learning, 3nd May [Thai restaurant]

As Tom and I went to Central World on last Saturday, we found one restaurant named “Yum and Tum” at 6th floor of Central world. Yum and Tum are kind of Thai food which can make in many differences forms. Most of them are make with a spicyness. For example- Yum mama [Thai noodles]or Tum Thai [Som-Tum]
Tom tried to order and it was a bit difficult for him to read English words in Thai sounds. We mostly ordered spicy food because we both like it. We also ate FRIED Som-Tum which was quite weird, but then it was delicious.
Tom was a bit shy and unsure to order, but at least he tried. I helped him when he couldn’t do it. After that I taught him to understand more. He also had word oder problems which I will teach him more. Like, I want a chicken(pom-aou-gai), but then he said " I buy a chicken"(pom-suer-gai) which is not correct.
This time helps Tom a lot more to be able to understand and talk in Thai which I think nobody had taught him before. I’m bending Tom’s history. However, we enjoyed eating Yum & Tum at Central World.
