14. Reflection of the Chinese-Thai learning, 25th April [Chinese restaurant]

As Tom and I went out last Saturday for practicing on ordering food in Chinese, we went to the Chinese restaurant called Guang Don at lunch. It was on Rama2 road. In the restaurant, there was a Chinese menu which also has English and Thai languages. I pretended like I couldn’t speak Thai, so I only said in English, then it makes me have more chance to speak Chinese because if they knew I am Thai, they wouldn’t want me to waste their time. First thing I told the waiter was “WO YAO BING SHUI” which meant I want some cold water. And then Tom fixed my sentence to “QING GEI WO BING SHUI” to make it more polite. When I couldn’t say it in Chinese word then I said it in English and ask Tom, then he told me the Chinese word and then I fixed that sentence again. He didn’t really help me to order, but he helped me more on fixing vocabularies. I asked for some beef, so I said, “QING GEI WO ZHAO NIU ROU”. We ordered many foods including DIMSUM. There was SAO MAI, BAO ZI. I enjoyed eating Chinese food which I love it so much. After I finished eating learned how to check the bill by saying, “MAI TAN” which mean check bill and then I have to say “DUO SHAO” which means how much. I also learned how to quickly ordering food by saying “ZHE GE” which mean “this one.”
It was so difficult ordering Chinese food because I couldn’t really pronounce it correctly and also correct words, however it’s good to have Tom helping me to order. I would have more chances to order food in other countries like China, Singapore. It is very helpful for me to at least know something.
