#3. Why would a need/gap analysis be a good idea?

I’ve studied in the class about asking janitor personal questions in topic of who wanted to study English language and we came up with 12 questions. After I asked janitor, she said she’s Thai and she said that she only know a very Basic English like hello, bye, sorry, thank you. She said that when she talked to teachers, she was a kind of scare because she wasn’t confident enough and she didn’t have knowledge in English. And the most important question I asked her was “Do you want to be able to speak English” and she said yes because she wanted to communicate with foreigners. She has to work for 6 days a week, so it means that the only day she’s free is on Sunday. But Sunday is ok for her to study English because she don’t need to take care of her daughters. They are both over age of twenty. She said that she and her daughters were all wanted to study English even its low cost, but it would be better if the price is free.
Janitor needs to study about school-based vocabulary amd phrases.

By having that information about her. It showed that she want to study English even she only have one day break. She wants to speak English with no shy and proud to speak English. It makes them feel more comfortable and that would be awesome for our school because those janitors will be able to speak English with teachers, students, and visitors. It’s good for both sides. For them, they can speak English, and for us, teacher or students can ask them to help easier. If our janitor can speak English, I think our school will look more reliability because less of Thai international schools have janitor that can speak English well. It is also good for their future life because her daughters can speak English and then they can have a better job.

#1. How can one make a difference? [REWRITE]

I’ve finished reading 5 stories which were all about how one makes a difference and now I want to share my opinion about it.

The first story I’ve read is called “Everyone Needs to Eat” and it was written by Dave Seegar. The story was about people found that they are many poor people, so one day Dave decided to help them. He made a soup and it's called "Soupie". I think Dave is a kind guy. He loves to help people whether they're his friend or not. His idea was just to help people, and the result came out quite good. What he changed is where he lived at the Margaret River. He also taught people about gentle which is about being friendly.

The second story is called "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" which was written by Petra Nemcova. This story has begun with a woman who wanted to be a model and it was finally come true. One day she went for a vacation to Thailand. Impossibly, a huge wave called Tsunami has destroyed the places and many people have died. She lost her fiancé. It seemed so sad. I feel sorry to her. Petra Nemcova helped children who have suffered loss. The difference she wanted this world to have is people should help each other. If everyone is doing like this the world would be change, there will be no hates. I like what she said "make us less likely to take and more likely to give." That is very good sentence because love and kindness is very important for live. To stay by having a lovely and awesome life, we should give love and kind to others.

The third story is called “The Potholed Road from Shy to Shining” which was written by Anita Smith. I really respect to people like this. People, who help others, like poor kids. In the story, she went overseas and that was very poor country. She went to the hospital and she found out that the place was horrible. And finally, she helped them. She went there and oversees the place to make sure that it's better. She helped many children from a worse life. Children lives were changing. This is how she made a different for children.

The fourth story is called “Fighting for a Dog Park” and it was written by Doris Richards. It is about Doris who helped Finland people to keep a dog park. Somebody was trying to change the park to some building. Doris was fighting for it. They didn't want it to be changed. It is a good idea to have a dog park because in the park has a fresh air and people are hanging around with their dogs or friends and they get to know new people easily. It reminds me of my dog because I also have a dog and I know that dog needs freedom like people. They would love to have some place for them to run around and relax. Finally, they didn’t change it to building anymore and it is still a park and everyone was happy with it. It means that Doris has made a difference for Finland people to keep the place for the dog park.

The fifth story is called “Born to Be a Rabble-Rouser” which was written by Reverend Al Sharpton. This story has begun about racism and fighting for the rights. It made me think that even you're black or white, does it really matter? Everyone is still a human. This story also talked about how to be succeeded. The word "Will" is very important. If you don't start with will, then u won't pursue. The difference that he made is everyone is equal. He gave a speech to public. He taught that to conquer is to win yourself not an enemy.I really like what the story said "We define success by what we have, not by what we did. But the only success in life is what you did. Because whatever you have, you can lose it and some other people could have more, but what you did, nobody can take it." It is extremely true. It reminds me of when my dad told me about the future. Everyone is competing. I must study a lot to know more and nobody can take it.
After I finished reading those stories, I taught me that every help can make a difference. Everyone could help each other to make this world a better place to live.

#2. How can I make a difference? [REWRITE]

By reading 5 stories, they were all about “How one makes a difference?” And to help the question going easier, we can use A Six Pillars of Character Counts and ESLRs to describe the people we’ve read and to make the world a better place. I believe that all people have a target and they want to reach it. The target is very important to make changes. To change thing to become a better thing is useful.

I’ve done helping a little bird which was almost died. It was a kind of screaming on a small tree in my house and the little bird’s sound wasn’t sound good, so I went there and I realize that it got a wound on its wings. So I hurry went into my house and took salve to cure it, but two day passed it didn’t get well as much as it should, so I brought it to the animals’ clinic and I left it there with the veterinarian. Eventually, I went to the clinic three days after and the doctor said that it’s getting better now, so from that time, I bought a little birdcage and let it stay in. I didn’t lock cage because I gave it freedom. I felt like if I’m in the cage, I would want a freedom by going out, and so I should let it go anywhere it wants and I also gave it food. From that time, at least I’ve help a little bird to have a better life.

Reflection by using ESLRs/ix Pillars

I have read 5 stories and the question of those stories is “How can one make a difference?” From last class, I tried to use ESLRs and Six Pillar of Character Counts. I chose a story named Born to be Rabble-Rouser and it was about a guy who fights for the civil rights. I could describe the actions of character of the story by using 5 ESLRs from 6. The first ESLR is Effective Communicator in English and the six pillars is responsibility because people in there should be able to speak English for communicating with others to help their community. The second one is Complex Thinker and responsibility. I used it because people should have some knowledge, so that they need to study, then they would be able to think of many plans and fight.
The third one is Self-Directed Learner with the word “Trustworthiness”. People should work hard by themselves for planning things or something else in support of right. The fourth one is Team player with the six pillars called respect. This one is the most important thing because people are working as a group and they can share many ideas, so they need to listen to others, cooperate for the best result. And the last one is Caring Global Citizen because by looking forward to the word FAIRNESS, people should separate black and white people because they are totally the same. The only different is their skin color. If they use these ESLRs and six pillars then it will be different and become a better place to live.

This is what she made a different for children. It reminds me when i went to a place called "Ban-Barng-Kae" which is in Bangkok. This place has a lot of old people that were left or has no place to go. At least the good thing is that they have some nurses helping them, but there wasn't enough nurses. I went to that place and i brought them food for their lunch and also took care of them. I saw their smile and laughing. That made me feel very happy because at least in this life, i have helped others. Before i was about to go back home, they sang a song which was saying about thank you for taking cares of them and that almost made me cry. However, i was so happy and proud.
